The Sustainable Freight Network
Making meaningful progress towards carbon-neutral logistics.
Decarbonisation in Global Logistics
Today, logistics contributes up to 24% of global CO2 emissions; if this continues, emissions will double by 2035. Now is the time to act, as governments enforce stricter regulations and targets to reduce corporate carbon footprints and meet global climate goals.
We work with thousands of customers and suppliers who are facing the complex challenge of reducing carbon emissions in logistics. We’re focused on lowering emissions, both for our customers and within our operations.
Our commitment to transparency, measurable reductions, and concrete action is at the heart of our approach, and that’s why we’ve created the Sustainable Freight Network to support our customers in making meaningful progress towards carbon-neutral logistics.
Our Sustainable Freight Network
Developed by Baxter Freight, the Sustainable Freight Network is a way to make meaningful progress towards carbon-neutral logistics.
It is built on three core elements:
Report – Measuring customers’ Scope 3 emissions from logistics to provide a clear understanding of their carbon footprint.
Reduce – Offering expert consultation on intermodal logistics and low-carbon fuels to minimise emissions.
Remove – Decarbonising supply chains by neutralising emissions through the purchase of carbon reduction certificates, supporting sustainable infrastructure via the Book-and-Claim system. SFN is built on principles of credibility, transparency, and innovation, ensuring customers have reliable and effective solutions for reducing emissions in logistics.
By combining accurate reporting, forward-thinking strategies, and verified carbon reduction methods, SFN provides a trusted framework to support businesses in making measurable, lasting environmental progress.
Our Sustainability
Driven by our passion for creating positive change in the logistics industry, we’re committed to reducing emissions across our sector.
SFN is built on three principles: Credibility, transparency and innovation.
Greenwashing isn’t an option for us; we’re focused on getting it right.
Sustainability doesn’t happen overnight – we’re still on our own journey to make a meaningful impact. Our environmental policy outlines the crucial steps we’ve already taken, with much more to come as we continue to refine and enhance our approach.
Reporting of emissions
Reporting is the first step to creating a real environmental impact; you need a clear understanding of where your emissions occur across your supply chain. Reporting is a foundation for a credible decarbonisation strategy. The three reportable scopes are:
Scope 1
Direct company owned or controlled emissions occurring at source
Scope 2
Emissions associated with the production of energy consumed by a company
Scope 3
Indirect emissions associated with company activities from sources not owned or controlled by a company
Scope 3 is directly linked to logistics, and we are here to provide GLEC-aligned transparent Scope 3 carbon emission reports across all freight modes of transport – like road, rail, air and sea. This enables businesses to understand their logistics footprint and drive meaningful decarbonisation strategies.
Powerful partnerships
To ensure our SFN products are credible and impactful, we’ve partnered with industry leaders to support effective decarbonisation in logistics.
We follow the GLEC Framework developed by the Smart Freight Centre, which provides a globally recognised methodology for calculating logistics emissions across all freight modes – road, rail, sea, and air. Our reporting partner, Shipzero, enhances this by delivering high-quality, transparent emissions data that meets international standards.
We also collaborate with trusted suppliers like DHL and Prema, giving us access to a wide network of low-carbon fuel options.
For reduction and removal, our chain of custody model is independently verified by Normec Verifavia, accredited under ISO 17029. Their third-party audits ensure transparency, prevent double accounting, and provide businesses with a reliable, verifiable path to emissions reduction.

HVO: Today’s answer to reducing emissions in logistics?
The race towards achieving net-zero emissions is a significant challenge, particularly for supply chains and the transportation sector, who are one of the largest emitting contributors to global warming. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG’s) needs to happen now.
The impact nearshoring and reshoring has on your carbon footprint
Why considering where you manufacture is vital for your long-term sustainability goals. Currently, the manufacturing and construction sector is the third highest source of greenhouse gas emissions. (Global GHG emission
