Celebrating 10 years of innovation & organisation!

Grace Reddish

Team Baxter from the very start.

This year we’re celebrating 10 years of Baxter Freight (yes 10 whole years!) and the people that’ve been with us from the very beginning, who’ve grown with us, and seen the developments across the past decade.

Think back to 2014…

Apple had unveiled their very first Apple Watch, ‘Flappy Bird’ was at the top of the game charts and we’d just moved into what we now know as the Baxter Freight office.

Gary and Margaret have been part of Team Baxter since the very beginning, and have seen all the changes from day one, to where we are now.

From developing software systems, to maintaining the smooth-running of every day – none of what we do would be possible without the help of these two.

Congratulations on your 10 year anniversary! How does that feel?

M – I can’t believe it has been 10 years! It feels great to reach this milestone, it’s been a really rewarding journey filled with memorable experiences.

G – Honestly 10 years have flown by! I feel so proud to be part of building something special, especially since it was from the very beginning.

What are some of your first memories of Baxter Freight?

G – Looking back on the past 10 years to where we are now, and what we’ve accomplished is crazy. I remember right at the beginning having literally nothing: no computer, network, (which is a big deal when you work in IT!) premises, customers and suppliers and we weren’t even in an office in the very early days of Baxter Freight! In these past 10 years we’ve grown and innovated. We’ve gone from paper and pen to market-leading digital software, new departments being developed, and grown from a handful of employees to a team of 140.

M – Yes, I agree with Gary. One of my earliest memories is being part of a small team of just five employees. As a business, we’ve grown significantly in both size and capability. All you need to do is look around our office to see how much we’ve developed in such a short space of time.

How has your role developed during your time at Baxter Freight?

M – I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work on a whole range of tasks and projects, which has helped developed a range of different skills. On a daily basis, my job is extremely varied, and no two days are ever really the same. I genuinely love what I do and the people that I work with!

G – I first joined Baxter Freight as an IT Manager, and as the years have developed I’ve seen the growth of my department, welcoming in a team of experts, and personally taking more of a strategic approach to ensure the IT strategy aligns with the overall business strategy.

What’s something working in logistics has taught you?

G – When you work in logistics, you’ve got to be prepared for anything. So many external influences can affect it. Also throughout the pandemic it became even more clear just how vital the freight industry is – everything would stop without it!

M – Working in logistics has taught me the importance of adaptability and problem solving, but most importantly, the value of collaborating with others. None of what we do would be possible without working together, and I’ve been able to grow and develop so much because of Baxter Freight’s culture of collaboration.

What advice would you give to yourself 10 years ago?

G – Before starting my role here I remember being so nervous as I’d been at my previous job for 21 years, so I’d say to myself: just relax, you’ve made a great decision starting at Baxter Freight!

M – I would tell myself to embrace every opportunity for learning and growth and to never underestimate the power of collaboration and teamwork.

With you for all your logistical needs

Within just 10 years Baxter Freight has grown from working out of our founder’s home, to a modern office in Nottingham with over 140 staff!

We’ve been able to develop relationships with our customers, suppliers, agents, hauliers, and most importantly, each other.

The partnerships we’ve grown along the way have helped shape the way we operate and the solutions we’re able to offer.

To everyone who has been on our journey so far – thank you! Here’s to the next 10 years of providing innovative solutions with the highest level of service.

We’re here to support you with any logistical requirements you have – from customs to sustainability and everything in between.
