The International Day of Charity

Grace Reddish

The importance of the day.

The 5th September is The International Day of Charity, an event all about raising awareness of important charity work around the world.

For over 10 years the day has enabled charities both big and small to mark their achievements and call for further support.

The significance of the 5th September all stems back to Mother Teresa. The International Day of Charity commemorates the passing of Mother Teresa, who won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her work fighting poverty and distress. The event was designated to recognise her selfless and important efforts.

Our values

For us, being present in our community is fundamental.

We know that when we all come together to make a positive change, the impact can be felt far and wide. From something small like a bake sale, to a full blown skydive we have the power to make a real difference.

When deciding on a charity partner, we wanted to align with a charity which shares the same values as us and benefits our local area. Nottingham Hospitals Charity is all that and more.

Nottingham Hospitals Charity exists to support all four of Nottingham’s NHS hospitals, including Queen’s Medical Centre, City Hospital, Ropewalk House and Nottingham Children’s Hospital.

Over the last 17 years Nottingham Hospitals Charity have raised over £58 million to enhance patient care by investing in:

  • state-of-the-art equipment to speed up diagnosis and aid recovery
  • refurbishment of old, outdated hospital wards and waiting areas
  • training and development opportunities for staff to grow their knowledge and skills
  • vital research into the treatment for some of the most aggressive and chronic illnesses affecting our local community and beyond.

Now in its 75th year, the NHS has been a constant to so many of us across the country.

High quality healthcare is something which should be accessible to all – only by supporting the incredible work the NHS does, ensures this continuation in years to come.

Team Baxter are taking the fundraising efforts in their (well-paced) stride.

On the 24th September you’ll find us at the Robin Hood Half Marathon, raising money and awareness for Nottingham Hospitals Charity.

How you can help

Over the next few months Nottingham Hospitals Charity have a number of appeals that they are raising money for. Here’s how you can get involved:

  • Hayward House – aiming to raise £1.5million for the palliative care centre at City Hospital, to fund additional posts such as bereavement counsellors and complementary therapists, and to improve access to their beautiful garden for patients and staff.
  • The Big Appeal for Nottingham Children’s Hospital – their latest will be raising money for the new neonatal intensive care units, plus transforming Children’s Outpatients and building new play areas across the hospital.
  • The Robin Centre – funding for their dedicated centre for bereavement counsellors and clinical staff to meet with families who have experienced the loss of a baby or child.

We want to ensure everyone receives the best possible care, when and where they need it. That’s why supporting Nottingham Hospitals Charity is so significant.

When you donate to Nottingham Hospitals Charity, you can choose where your donations will go, whether that’s to a particular ward or department which is close to your heart, or to their general fund, where the money is used where it is most needed.
