It really is good to talk, even a quick check in on a friend, colleague or neighbour can really change their day, and yours too!
Baxter Freight is part of a global network of freight carriers and we want to shine a light on those professions that can be lonely. Research by organisations such as RHA and Mind states that almost a third of truck drivers find being away from family and alone all day as a ‘significant issue affecting their mental health’ and 30% of work-related illness in this sector is due to stress, depression and anxiety, but could be higher because of stigma associated with talking about mental health.
What is Time To Talk Day?
Time to Talk Day is about creating the opportunity for everyone to discuss their mental health more openly within the communities in their lives. Supported by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness the message is clear, you don’t have to host a huge event to get the conversation going on Time to Talk Day. Remember, every conversation matters. You could:
- Check-in with a friend
- Pop our posters on your community notice boards
- Host a coffee and chat in your community centre
- Put some posters up in school
- Run a lunch and learn in the office
- Simply text a mate
It’s the UK’s biggest mental health conversation. There is loads of great resources and ways to take part here.

Anyone can lend an ear
Would you be open enough to talk to a colleague about mental health? Don’t worry if it seems daunting, making time to ask how someone is and really listening can make a huge difference to their day. If someone does open up, you don’t have to fix the problem, just take the time to have that conversation. There are a number of mental health organisations you could sign-post your colleagues/friends/family to for support, such as CALM drivers, Mind and Samaritans. Just let them know that talking will help.
And don’t forget to listen.
